I currently work two jobs and realize I will not be able to provide for my children the way I did when there were two incomes. However, how do I respond to the kids when they want to know how will we live and will there be enough money?
The money aspects of divorce and children are tough. It is important to set a realistic budget and realize that you might not be able to enjoy some of the luxuries that two incomes could afford. Ultimately, you want to do what is best for your children and make sure that they have what they need. Anything above and beyond is wonderful; however, you need to set expectations to what is realistic versus unrealistic in regard to your budget. Suggest ways to cut back, and let the kids contribute their ideas. Additionally, find ways to compromise so that they can still enjoy some of the things they did before.
